A special hello and how are you to my readers. I haven’t posted in a few weeks because I felt the need to take a well-deserved break. This break allowed me to savor the holidays and reflect on the year that seemed to pass us all by at the speed of lightning.
While I was relaxing and reflecting and cooking and eating, I could not help but see how much we go from task to task. Christmas was barely over, and Valentine’s Day decorations were already being pushed through. Make Time to Enjoy Life
Everyone was posting about their goals and plans for the new year. I could not help but think about the fact that we don’t stop to take a moment to cease from activity. This is exactly what the importance of the Sabbath is all about.
The Value of Honoring the Importance of the Sabbath
The importance of the Sabbath is to give/allow ourselves a certain day of the week in which to direct our thoughts and actions toward God.
For those of the Jewish faith this is observed at sunset on Friday to after dark on Saturday evening. It is a time when you seek to rest from all activity and just be in the moment. A time to honor the God of your salvation.
Some of the Benefits of Observing the Sabbath
There are many positive results that can result from observing the Sabbath. It allows you to take a break from your normal stress filled routines. If you are very strict with observing the Sabbath, then it can allow you to also break from social media and the negative chatter and energy that comes with that. It is a great time of reflection and strengthening your inner man.
What is the Importance of the Sabbath
The importance of the Sabbath overall is that it allows you to rest. Rest is important because without proper rest we are less productive and focused. For so many the idea of slowing down and even stopping for any amount of time is just unheard. If you start to implement this practice in your weekly routine, you will see the benefits.
If you are not sure what to do on your Sabbath, here are a few suggestions.
- Take a well needed nap
- Prepare a special meal
- Turn off social media – as a matter of fact if you are really up for a challenge, turn off your phone or have your calls redirected to do not disturb
- Read
- Meditate
- Play relaxing music
- Spend some time with family
- Indulge in a hobby that you enjoy
These were just a few suggestions. The most important part of a Sabbath is to use this time to spend with God and just simply reflect. There are so many benefits to observing the Sabbath. Hopefully, if you begin to set aside one day a week as your sacred time you too will enjoy and begin to see the importance of the Sabbath.
As I begin this New Year, I am reminded that the importance of the Sabbath is to allow us to reconnect, recharge and emerge rested and ready for the week ahead. I encourage all of you to remember you are not going to be successful at anything this year if you are driven by multiple tasks and goals.
Those things are very important, and I will cover those in the next few weeks but right now we are setting the ground rules and that includes taking time to rest. Until next time my readers, Continue to …. Live Your Dreams Out Loud
